Nicholas Linnehan

Letter of Recommendation

Nicholas Linnehan has served as the Director of Education for TEST Theater Company, since April of 2004, for which I serve as artistic director. Also, I have had the opportunity and pleasure to work with him in his capacity of author, producer and director of his play “Identity”. He is currently directing TEST’s production of the “Andersonville Trial”.
Upon rare occasions, a young organization is fortunate enough to find someone who becomes a cornerstone of their operational foundations. In the case of Nicholas Linnehan, this actually happened overnight. The moment we brought Nick on board, he began to move our company forward. The force of his passion for his work and the intelligence which he brings to the table is equaled only by his willingness to always do more, volunteer more, give more, and accomplish more. Nick never stops, and our ability to rely upon him has seen TEST Theater through some of its most difficult trials.
Brought on as an educational coordinator to write lesson plans around the plays we perform, to develop an educational program, Nicholas immediately tore into the project at hand with unbridled enthusiasm. He did not, however, stop there. He forged connections for us within the New York public school system, worked on multiple committees, raised funds and solicited in-kind donations, directed productions, assistant stage managed, and even ran sound and box office for our shows.
As an actor and director, Nick is an artist of uncommon talent and an organizer who, often single handedly, moves large and seemingly overwhelming projects forward. His ideas are brilliant, but like all true leaders, he is receptive to the ideas of others. His inclusiveness, as well as his ability to bring out the best in a team working under difficult circumstances is what truly sets Nick apart.
Nick has a special creative ability, as a director, for helping actors find specificity within difficult texts. Having been directed by him, I can, with first hand knowledge say that his casts trust him, and with good reason. He has the rare ability to lead and teach a young actor having difficulty without ever once pontificating. He is never impatient and takes as much time and effort as is required to develop both the individual performer and the show as an entire production. Simply put, he never quits and no actor is ever abandoned onstage. This is a rare quality.
Nicholas is a truly positive force in the educational development of our company. His lesson plans are creative and well written, and he is an expansive thinker who has helped us develop our program out of nothing. His expertise and knowledge is astounding, and his love of the work itself keeps the rest of us going when difficulties arise. I cannot stress highly enough what he has done for us, and I have no doubt that any organization which hires him will count themselves fortunate for having done so.

Sincerely,

Kristofer Holz
